Our state of health is largely determined by our lifestyle choices. To be at our best we need to eat well, move well and think well. When we do not eat, move, or think well we place our bodies under stress. This causes a stress response (fight or flight) which changes our physiology:
- Increased heart rate
- Increased blood pressure
- Increased blood sugar levels
- Increased blood cholesterol levels
- Decreased digestion
- Decreased Immunity
The stress response is vital for survival in a dangerous situation (short term), however, chronic stress (long term) is damaging to our health and is a major factor in many health issues facing our modern society:
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Cancer
- Stroke
- Diabetes
- Depression/Anxiety
- Fatigue
Causes of stress can be classified into 3 main groups:
Chemical – Not eating well i.e. processed foods, smoking, excessive alcohol etc.
Physical – Not moving well i.e. lack of exercise, injury, poor posture.
Emotional – Not thinking well i.e. negative thoughts, upsets, arguments, work/money pressures.
Whatever the cause of your stress the response is the same,
So remember Eat well, Move well, Think well.

You are what you eat! Everything you eat and drink is used to grow and maintain the cells that make up your body.
Move Well
Exercise is essential for good health. Humans evolved as physically active organisms (hunter-gatherers).
Think Well
As humans we can consciously choose to react to environmental stimuli and thus control our stress levels.
