Subluxation
The structure of your spine allows it to naturally absorb the stress and tensions we encounter on a daily basis. A subluxation is when one or more vertebrae become misaligned and stop moving properly creating pressure on the spinal nerves. Subluxations interfere with the flow of information along the nerves and throughout the nervous system reducing the body’s ability to coordinate its functions and heal itself. This can have a dramatic effect on our health and general wellbeing.
Causes of Subluxation
Chiropractors commonly recognise three main causes of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC):
Physical
Injuries, accidents, falls, the birth process, prolonged abnormal postures such as sitting or repetitive one-sided activities.
Chemical
Smoking, drinking alcohol, food additives, prescribed medication, recreational drugs and environmental pollution.
Many people’s subluxations begin in early childhood without obvious pain. Over time, due to the stresses we experience, subluxations begin to negatively affect our general health and wellbeing.
Pain and other symptoms often appear after many years when the spine is no longer able to compensate and adapt to the stresses we encounter. Much like tooth decay, subluxation reduce sour health and wellbeing and causes our spines to degenerate without us being aware until symptoms arise.
Chiropractors are trained to improve the function of your spine helping your nervous system to function optimally. . This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments designed specifically to correct the subluxations in your spine. Just as visiting your dentist for regular check-ups is important for your teeth, regular visits to your chiropractor will help to keep your spine and nervous system functioning to their best.
